Plain-language summary
The web and iOS apps can keep separate learner profiles and progress on one shared device. They do not use advertising or analytics SDKs, sell personal information, create public profiles, or enable child-to-child communication.
A school or district should complete its own privacy, security, accessibility, and instructional review before directing students to use Lingo Lantern. Product availability is not district authorization.

Character handwriting practice
Stroke checking is currently a web-app feature.
Character Studio and the Daily 10 writer compare each drawn stroke with a limited set of stroke-path files delivered with the web app. The current release does not upload, transmit, or save the learner's drawn path, canvas image, or stylus movement. It stores only the device-local completion summary described above. The no-drawing path is recorded as “observed,” never as verified handwriting.
Speech practice
Microphone-based practice is optional.
After the user grants microphone and speech-recognition permission, the browser or operating-system speech service may temporarily process audio and return recognized text. On iOS version 1.0 build 12, Lingo Lantern uses Apple's Speech framework; Apple may send the audio to its servers to provide recognition. Lingo Lantern does not record, retain, or upload audio to a SaltMark Design server, and recognized alternatives are used only for the active interaction. Speech-service operators process information under their own terms. Learners can use listen-only and non-microphone activities instead.
Infrastructure and automatic request data
Cloudflare delivers and protects the public website. Like most web infrastructure, it may process ordinary network and security information such as IP address, request time, requested URL, device/browser information, and threat signals. Cloudflare may set a security cookie such as __cf_bm. Lingo Lantern does not use that information for advertising, learner scoring, or behavioral profiles. The installed iOS lesson bundle does not depend on the Lingo Lantern website for lessons or progress; network access may still occur when a grown-up opens support or privacy links, or when the Apple speech service needs a connection.
Information not requested by the current app
- Student email, district ID, roster, password, or cloud login credential
- Precise location, contacts, photos, or payment information
- Saved voice recordings or biometric voiceprints
- Child messages, posts, comments, or public profiles
- Advertising identifiers or behavioral advertising profiles
- Official grades, assessment records, IEPs, or health information
Sharing, sale, and use
SaltMark Design does not sell learner information or share it for targeted advertising. Information may be processed by service providers only as needed to deliver, secure, or troubleshoot the website or provide an optional device feature; to comply with law; or to protect users and the service. A district agreement may impose additional limits and procedures before approved school use.
Retention
Device-local profiles remain until a user removes the profile, clears browser/site data, deletes the iOS app, or the browser or operating system removes the local data. Lingo Lantern does not maintain a cloud learner profile to retrieve or delete. Infrastructure and platform providers may retain security, request, or speech-service data under their operational terms and any applicable district agreement.
Children, families, and schools
Lingo Lantern is an educational product intended for use with adult guidance. The current app avoids child registration and does not knowingly request cloud-stored personal information from children. Families should use a nickname or generic alias. Schools must use the product only after their authorized review and any required family notice or consent process.

Email info@saltmarkdesign.com. Because learner profiles stay on the device, include no student name or sensitive information in the message. SaltMark Design may update this notice when product behavior changes; the updated date will appear at the top.
